Greenvale supporting Young Duns swimmers

Promising young swimmers from the Duns Amateur Swimming Club are enjoying a year-long sponsorship from the UK’s largest potato grower and supplier, Greenvale.

The 47-strong swimming club, with ages ranging from 8-18 years, now enjoys a new supply of Nike club t-shirts for all its members and a brand new trophy, thanks to the sponsorship.

Danielle Betts, spokesperson for DUNS ASC, said: “We are so grateful to Greenvale for sponsoring us this year. With such a strong team of swimmers, it makes a world of difference being able to give them the support and recognition they deserve.”

The swimming club had former members competing at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, one of which was Dan Wallace who won one Gold and two Silvers.

It’s not short of promising future stars either; Toby Douglas, 15, is currently in the Silver National Development Squad for Scotland and represented Scotland at the Tri-Nations Meet in Ireland earlier this year. Definitely one for the future.

In addition, five of the club’s swimmers (Toby Douglas, Ellenor Gracey 14, Robyn Flockhart 18, Kacper Dluzak, and Abbie Crossan 12) travelled to Aberdeen at the end of June to swim with the Border Elite Swim Team (BEST) at the Scottish National Age Groups. So it’s safe to say that there’s some real talent emerging from the club.

Stephen Simm, Operations Manager at Greenvale’s Duns site said: “Sports should be an integral part of every community and it’s so important to support local clubs wherever possible. We’re proud to help such an enthusiastic and dedicated group and we wish them the best of luck for the rest of the year.”
